3x4 - Most of the Trowa and Quatre doujinshi out there are 3x4s, which means Trowa is seme, and Quatre is uke. This is mainly so because of the yaoi rules, and has very little to do with personality, although Trowa fits into the role of a traditional yaoi seme with remarkably ease, and Quatre the same for the uke role.
4x3 - Some doujinshi artists wanted to see Trowa on the bottom (most djkas want to see their fave get penetrated, to put it bluntly), and broke the yaoi rules to make is so. I estimate that perhaps 5% or less of all Trowa and Quatre doujinshi are 4x3s, and only certain circles that specialize in Trowa uke does them.
doujinshi - Literally "small press comics". The Japanese term for fan created comics. Nothing on this page is even remotely official, doujinshi is purely fan works.
seme - The word is derived from the Japanese word for attack, and means the character who gets to do the actual penetration in the NC-17 rated scenes. Commonly misused to denote the more outgoing person, which you can tell by 3x4 doujinshi isn't really true. More often than not, Quatre initiates the sex, but still ends up as uke, bottom. There is a number if rules for who is to be seme and uke, and Trowa X Quatre doujinsi world is ruled by one of them - Trowa is taller, thus he's seme, on top.
shota - Manga or doujinshi depicting really young characters, usually betwen the ages of 5 to 12. Teenagers are not and can not be shota, it's purely for pre-teens, although many often mis-use the term.
uke - The word is derived from the Japanese word for receive, and means the character who gets to be penetrated in the NC-17 rated scenes. Many confuse personality with who gets to be seme/uke, but the roles are usually determined by other factors. See seme and yaoi rules for further discussion.
yaoi rules - Not only society in general, but also yaoi fandom has the height rule - the "male" partner of the two (the one who gets to penetrate) is always the taller one, and the shorter one acts the "female" role (gets penetrated in sex). It may seem like a stupid rule, but to be honest, would you not at least look twice is you saw a taller girl with her shorter boyfriend? Other rules determine who is to be uke - usually the more "feminine" charcter, based on appearance, behaviour, and even voice. If the character isn't "supposed to be" uke, you can always make him so by adjusting his appearance so he looks more feminine. A typical example of this can be seen in the circle x3's works, where Trowa is blushing worthy of any Japanese schoolgirl, and has bigger nipples than the average female.
